I don’t know… I wasn’t sure. It never even appear to me that I will like this movie. The trailers sucks. It didn’t mean a thing. The storyline seems to be lame… and cars… hahaha.. it’s never been my topic. I don’t know. And after so many winning streaks for the Pixar, I tot their glorious moments will just tarnish.
Well.. the only reason that got me to the cinema to watch it was because I didn’t want to miss a single animation from Pixar. Yeah… I have a good record when it comes to following Pixar’s animations. I was glad I make the right decision to follow my persistent wants. I must really say it proves me so wrong and Pixar is still in it’s very top form. As a matter of fact, this time around it is much more touching and they really do pay much more attention to it. No wonder it takes them so long to ever release this movie.
It’s a movie in tribute to John Lasseter and also the last movie for Joe Ranft as he died last year. Cars is a movie that talks about a cocky and self-centred rookie race car Lightning McQueen (Own Wilson). He is the new sensation in the Piston Cup as he would be the first rookie to ever win a Piston Cup. His ego and cocky attitude land him in to trouble when he believes he is the champion and believes he will take over Me. The King (Richard Petty) and be the new face for Dinocco. Yes big companies that will put him at the cover of lots of magazines, promotions, advertisements and surely does bring in fame and woman!
A big scene starts to come out when there is a tie between the 3 racers. Mr. The King, Lightning McQueen and Chick Hicks (Michael Keaton). They were then set to a new race to find out who the winner is. They will all then race in California in a weeks time. Lightning McQueen and Chick Hicks were both fighting their way there first to get in contact with the Dinocco’s and both eager to get to be the new spokesperson for Dinocco.
In the midst of getting to California, McQueen was accidently left of at the highway. Being a race car without headlights, he went the wrong way and instead of heading to the interstate, he landed himself at Route 66. Due to some traffic offence and him wracking the road there, he was sentence to do community service there. The would have to fix up the road before he is released.
There he gets to know lots of new people like Sally a fine and beautiful Porshe (Bonnie Hunt), a old and rusty looking truck, Mater (Larry The Cable Guy) which ends up to be his best friend. In that small town, he also secretly or I should say accidently found out that Doc Hudson (Paul Newman), the town mayor is actually a legendary Piston Cup racer who actually have won 3 Piston Cup. However he was forgotten when he met was crashed in one of the race.
The movie does bring in lots of unexpected scenes. I love it even more when they end it with lots of flashbacks of other Pixar animated movies but change the characters to cars with the feel of the original feel to it (yes, this all only happen during the credits.. so stick to your chair till they all shoo you off). I personally like the Monster Inc. version.
I must say I was touched and my judgement made based on the trailer is so so so so so wrong. I think this is by far the best animation series by Pixar. But then again, I love Monster Inc. coz I simply love the fuzzy and cute monsters. Hehehe… cute and cuddly.
Well, there were many things I didn’t exactly know about but was pointed out by friends and critics which makes me wanna re-watch this movie again. Well… I know I am cruel, but I will still spot it out so that you will want to pay attention to it if you ever see the movie over and over again.
1. The rock formations at Radiator Springs resemble Cadillac Ranch (an art exhibit consisting of 10 Cadillacs half-buried in a line outside Amarillo, Texas).
2. If you look closely, there is one racing cars which is white and has the Apple logo, and the number is 84. 1984 was the year Apple released the Macintosh. Pixar was previously owned by Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple. (Fellow mac users… please spot this car. Para Salute!!)
3. The tires of Lightning McQueen are manufactured by Lightyear, a reference both to the real tires manufacturer Goodyear and character Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story.
4. The crash at the end of the movie is a re-creation of Rusty Wallace’s famous end-over crash when his car flipped 23 times. (Yes, let’s count. 23 times)
5. Michael Schumacher actually do the voice over for The Michael Shumacher Ferrari that goes into Luigi shop to buy tires at the almost ending scene.
Oooo…. I am so looking forward to Ratatouille (is said to be on cinemas in 2007), which tells a tale of a rat named Ratatouille who lives in a upmarket Parisian restaurant run by an eccentric chef and Toy Story 3 (which will be on cinema in 2008).
p/s – please do try to enter the cinema earlier and scrap the fashionably late attitude. Coz if you do, you will miss out the 10 minutes short animation by Pixar. Yes… it’s totally cute and it’s call “One Man Band”. It does make laugh like crazy. I think the animation and the expression is simply superb. What more can I say. Pixar never fails me. 😀 Well.. you could view the story behind it if you do miss it.
