Backdated post. Actual event took place on 02 October 2006. Yeay.. the very first Buka Puasa Dinner with our client. This time of the year, I guess it’s the most buffet I will ever go. The eating goes non-stop. This year, we decided to go somewhere else instead of sticking to Hotel Maya only. Hence, the decision is made… we gotta give Lemon Garden Cafe a try. Gaining lots of recognition serving one of the best buffets in KL, one must really go try. They really do offer a wide variety of food. No kidding… the variety is as much as what Jogoya offers but of course Jogoya is more Japanese oriented while at Lemon Garden Cafe, they serves a large variety of food which includes, Chinese, Japanese, Malay, Western, Italian and even Fusion food. Seriously.. I could never actually finish trying their stuffs especially when it comes to desserts. They have rows and rows, racks and rack… and I practically felt full eating all those food. From chinese to japanese to western to malay. I think I tried all the types. I was really full by then but I told myself I gotta give the chocolate fountain a try. How can I not try the chocolate fountain! It’s really amazing… non stop the chocolate flows…. covering every single inch of the strawberries, marshmallow… and grapes… oh… luxury… it’s better than first love. Really!! I really wanna go and dine there again. Really… 😀 I want to eat more this time 😀 Yes.. more more more! Address: |
Restaurant Hopping
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 01 October 2006.
What is better than a spread of different curry to warm our hearts after we came down from a cold place.
While this post may seems boring to many, it is quite memorable since it is the first time my parents actually join us to eat nasi kandar in KL.
That’s right, my parents don’t really fancy nasi kandar, and for my mum she in general don’t really fancy spicy food as she grew older.
What makes it even more memorable? My cousin Nicole is there to join us as well.
This is probably the last meal meal in KL with Nicole before she goes on a 12 day trip to Korea.
OK, I’m so jealous 😫! Please bring me along.
Now back to the curry spread, we ordered so much and it is typical for us to try share and have variety.
We ordered almost all the variety from mutton curry, squid curry, fish curry all the way to chicken curry.
Of course we also ordered loads of vegetables to balance the meat out.

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 30 September 2006. After enjoying my party night, I went up the hills with my parents, my sis, my godparents and Nicole. It was sort of a crazy day. My parents drop by kinda early so that we would reach Genting before the 12 o’clock check in time. As we reach there, we checked in Ria Apartments and lepak for a bit. I of course take the excuse to sleep more while waiting for Nicole to meet us up from her Bukit Tinggi trip. Right… I was happily sleeping until my great cousin ran in to the room trying to steal my blanket. Ah… the Genting trip soon begins when we decided to walk up Genting instead of driving up. *brrrrr* It’s really cool~ As we reach I suggested me drop by for a cup of hot coffee. Wooo… STARBUCKS… STARBUCKS… why? Coz it has this nice green logo and it’s located like on a small island with some mechanical gondola boats passing by. I was totally energized with I finish drinking the cup of coffee. The girls shopping spree mode was switch ON. I shop and shop non stop. I pretty much buy lots of stuff and then we decided to call my dad and my godparents for early dinner. Restaurant Hainan Kitchen was the pick since my parents have some points to redeem some food. I don’t really know how those stuff works. All I ever think of is food… give me food! Everywhere in Genting seems packed… this place was packed as well… but none of us really want to walk any further. This restaurant sorta serve.. I don’t really know.. I felt it isn’t Hainan food to begin with. Some of it is practically western food. Some are Cantonese food. I guess the only one who ordered Hainanese Chicken Rice felt it was a right thing to eat at this place… but that person is not me. Pork chop like of course my eat Sizzling Pork Chop! Okay… I personally think it doesn’t taste good. The sauce is rather sweet… which much to my dislike. The meat was rather over-cooked. So it’s a little less juicy. The adults were busy with their casino experiences… hence the kids take some time off from listening and take some pictures. My mum, my sis, Nicole and me went on shopping till we suddenly decided to go for a movie. Much to our disappointment.. Every show was fully booked. And I mean fully booked… even the super front rows. Well.. that makes me continue to shop shop and shop. One thing I like about Genting… the shops there open till like midnight. Right… imagine a whole day of shopping.. ah… and the amount of money flying away from my pocket :(. We then felt a little tired and thirsty. We then stop by this stall at the hawker centre and a ordered some desserts. I felt cheated as it taste really bad. It’s as if it has no other taste except sweet. I practically just have a few sip and just left it untouched. The other adults all came to meet up and we all walk back to the apartment together. |
I have been tagged by Nicole who started this very tag.
Yes, we have always been talking about food and restaurant recommendations every time we chat.
She is constantly asking me where to bring her for good food when she visits while vice-versa, I would ask her the same.
This is when she decided on making a tag listing of the top 5 places of food one would recommend.
With this, we would be able to crowdsource for a lot of good place to go and explore.
The rules are simple:
1. List out your top 5 favourite place to eat at your location.
2. Put down your link below together below the name/nick of the person who tag you and link directly to your post (e.g http://www.velverse.com/?p=545). Please include the state or country you’re from.
Nicole (Sydney, Australia)
velverse (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
3. Tag 5 other people (preferable from other countries/states)
Now, let us begin and counting down to my recommendation list:
Jogoya is one the top Japanese buffet place I would recommend.
I could recall back then when I brought my sister to this place, and now it is the go to place for birthdays in my family.
While this place doesn’t exactly serve local food, this place serves a good spread of Japanese buffet.
They are popular for their large variety of fresh sashimi and sushi.
Aside, they also serve various types of teppanyaki, teriyaki and tempura.
They also have large selection of steamed and grilled food and soups.
The list of desserts, cakes and cookies are also no joke. Best part, they offer so many variety of drinks.
I could still remember how my sister was too excited with all the options and choices.
And I am sure first timers will go crazy and are mesmerized by the selections.
I remember the last time I went, I was crazy over their sashimi.
I had like 4 plates of sashimi along with many other food such as soft shell crabs, grilled mussels, steam fish, soups and so much more.
I can’t believe myself, neither can my friends; when they saw me eat non stop for 3 hours straight while the others were sitting and burping.
They were shocked and said “Wah!! You can really eat huh?”, which makes me wonder too.
So yes, I don’t mind visiting the Jogoya again. Anyone?

Adding a local Chinese stall to the list.
If you love beef noodles, you can’t miss out Ngau Kee Beef Noodles.
This stall has been around for more than a decade.
As far as I could remember, I have visited this place many times with many different people and I must say they still maintain their standard.
When I first visit, they are a little more strict and only have standard offerings.
However as time goes by, the owner are more flexible and allow customization.
Perhaps it is cause I was visiting during non-peak hours, hence they allowed us to mix and match our food ingredients.
For a start, one can choose to have dry or soup based beef noodles.
One can also choose their desired type of noodles. For those who can’t decide, they can mix a few together as well.
I normally prefer the dry noodles which comes with loads of minced beef on top of the noodles.
They normally serve the noodles with a bowl of soup with beef balls, beef tendons, beef slices and even beef intestines. But all these are customizable in case there are some parts that you would like to include or exclude.
For me, the basic good bowl of beef noodles with bouncy beef balls is good enough to catch my attention.
Their secret recipe chili sauce also contributes to the success of the dish.
Consumer always ask for the chili sauce as it elevates the taste of the beef balls and beef slices.
So when you pay this place a visit, please try their chili sauce too!

As most people know, Nasi Lemak is a must have or must try when you are in Malaysia.
It is our national dish which most Malaysians are proud of.
Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa serves one of the best nasi lemak in town.
I could still remember the first time I visited this place, and it all started with work.
Yes, work. The first time I visited this place was to join my colleague to do a food review on this place.
They needed to ensure they are able to order a feast and take lots of picture, hence we are all invited so that they could order more.
So we ordered our heart out since it was paid for.
This place isn’t called Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa for nothing.
From their wall of fame, we could see photos of people around the world dropping by, leaving comments and reviews.
These includes celebrities, artists and famous people around the world.
While nasi lemak predominantly seems the same and are made of few slices of cucumber, peanuts, ikan bilis, coconut rice and sambal.
The soul of the food relies on two things, the coconut rice and the sambal.
Here at Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa, they simply nailed it!
Aside their basic nasi lemak, they are known for their large variety of condiments and side dishes to add on.
Consumers are spoilt for choices as they have so much to offer, from fried chicken to curry chicken, beef rendang, sambal sotong, curried beef lungs and much more.
When talk about nasi lemak, I personally think they are at one of the top 5 best nasi lemak in town.

Leong Ya is my celebration go to place when I was still studying in Sri Kembangan.
Back in my university days, we would visit this place every time my parents came down to visit me.
This is a typical Chinese restaurant but are popular for their Paper Wrapped Chicken.
Anyone who are searching for good food in Sri Kembangan would have seen Leong Ya pop up in their searches.
And their signature paper wrapped chicken taste really good.
The big and chunky marinated chicken pieces covered in thick dark sauce, slightly sweetened gravy.
Each wrapped chicken was then deep fried to perfection.
Unwrapping the chicken is tedious and felt like unwrapping gifts.
Most of the time, I wished I unwrapped a piece of chicken wings, but mostly to my disappointments.
Somehow my fate with wrapped chicken wings are close to none.
Aside their signature paper wrapped chicken, their Yong Tau Foo is also yummy!
Most of the time, I would feel happy and contented just having this 2 dish.
As I was writing this, I wish I was transported back to my university days.
When Leong Ya was just so near and I can just go there to celebrate all the good times.

Wong Poh Restaurant is the place where I had Chinese New Year dinner with my uni-mates last year.
I personally find the food yummy and good.
It is quite common that most restaurant’s food quality dropped especially during peak hours and festive due to overwhelming guests. But to my surprise, Wong Poh still delivers.
Must have or rather what I like most is their Cheese Crabs in Claypot.
The thick gravy, the aroma of the curry leaves and the cheesy taste completely wrapped around the crabs.
I am so happy that the crabs were huge, fresh and meaty which contributed greatly to it being yummy!
Aside their Cheese Crabs in Claypot, their Butter Crabs and Salted Egg Crabs are to die for also.
No kidding! I think they mastered the art of cooking crabs and is a place crab lovers must visit.
Their Fried Sotong and Pepper Salted Prawns is yummy too!
Now I felt like having a seafood feast!

Backdated post. Actual event took place on 27 September 2006. Nicole saw how I liked the porridge steamboat I always go with Gigi and told me many times before she even touch down in KL that I will have to bring her go. Of course being a cousin that practically doesn’t recognize roads… I need to bring my partner Gigi, her official partner Brian and Winson along. Right… How can I not introduce my buddies to my cute cuz. We went in to the shop, surprisingly not much people. Er… oh yeah I forgot.. this is the second branch.. a few block away from the main shop. We sat down and they passed us menu to choose our ingrediants. They do have the per pax thing. Which they will provide you with generous amount of stuff such as prawns, dumplings, meat, seafood, vege, egg, fishballs and many thing else. We ordered food for 4 pax and ordered extra stuff like thinly sliced pork and beef which taste so smooth and tender in the porridge. Their special pork balls are a must order thing. No kidding… it taste great. Looking at the size of the pork ball one would have guessed it’s nothing normal. Inside the pork ball, there are some minced pork meat with a little soup similar to shanghai dumpling style. When you actually bite the pork ball… juices are actually flowing out. *drool* I want pork balls! Address: |
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 25 September 2006. Ah… I woke up to a brand new day to know it’s another food galore. I promise my cute cousin Nicole, to go watch movie. Yeah, she can’t wait but to watch her handsome Daniel Wu. I have no problem since I can’t wait to watch the movie too. Kinda like a long awaited movie. She is kind enough to go KLCC earlier to walk around and bought good seats for the show. We both decided for some Japanese food and hence, I decided to bring her to Genki Sushi. Ah.. what can go wrong when you have plates and plates of sushi slowly passing by our face to tempt us eat more. Hem… those plates of sushi just come and come and come. Wah… but none of them interest me. Hence I just use the most traditional method. “Take the menu and point” to order. Seriously… I kinda get irritated with menu’s without picture. Sorta hard for people like me who dunno how to pronounce words… or don’t understand what they are talking about or I wonder how big the portion is… or well… I dunno, I just like to look at nice graphics. They tempt me more. There are lots to choose and some are practically new to me. Like the Fire Cracker Maki and the Kimchi Maki. Well, it was something new to me.. never seen it on the menu or tried it before.. so might as well. I can’t believe both of us can fully utilize the table with little space left. Nicole was simply enjoying her food and guess what.. she even try to see how they make the Kimchi Maki so that she can try it at home. Now… I demand to try your homemade Kimchi Maki. Amazingly, we manage to finish everything. When it first arrive, I somehow think we over ordered and we will have a hard time finishing up. But well… I guess food is not a problem for us… what is even better, Japanese food. Ah… now.. a full stomach and Daniel Wu. Isn’t life wonderful~ |
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 24 September 2006. Rinnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg… ring…. ring… My alarm clock starts to ring. I woke up off it… let it snooze a little while I continue to roll left and right trying to get some sleep. I obviously couldn’t. I then drag myself out from the bed, called up my sister and set time to pick her up from her house before we headed down to pick Nicole up. Right, my lovely cousin is back. She overnight at a hotel nearby Sg. Wang and we are heading there to pick her up and then start our food and long time no see talks session. Awww… she was an easy spot since she is fair… with rosy cheek which in my opinion looks a little japanese/korean. Right after we pick her up, we have hard times struggling thinking where we would be heading. I think Sg. Wang and anywhere around is not a god choice since she and her friend already walk around that area yesterday. To just make matter not so complicated, we then decided to head home… unload those bagages and then go out again. I asked my sister to call her bf to see if he wants to join. Since we will have to pick him up later, we decided to just go somewhere nearby and munch something. We then drop by at the Jusco nearby my area and began our shopping frenzy. Of course before shopping would be the dining and chit chatting session. We all decided it would be Secret Recipe since Nicole says it is hard to find decent cheesecake in Australia. We flip and flip and flip where we all finally know what we want. Nicole ordered Chicken Cordon Blue (RM14.50), me and my sister share the same craving for Irish Lamb Stew (RM21.50). We also ordered Green Apple Kasturi (RM7.00) while I need some Iced Caffe Latte (RM7.50) to stay awake. Don’t ask me why. I need to just stay awake. My sister even ordered 2 slice of cake, Chocolate Cheesecake and Raspberry Cheesecake (RM5.50 per slice) to share. Talk about some little munches.. to a heavy lunch. The best part, we already know our dinner appointment is around 6.30 when we were happily eating our lunch around 2. Haha.. talk about time to digest. Now.. who could blame us when Secret Recipe serves good Irish Lamb Stew. I mean, it’s recommended and the portion is big.. its yummy. I just couldn’t resist it. Cheesecake… hahaha… it’s been sometime since I had a piece of cake… decent piece I mean. Well, it’s wonderful to eat cake once in a while.. but yeah.. great company… great food. Then again… everything that ever cross our mind now is.. SHOPPING!!! SHOPPING!!! SHOPPING! F.O.S is just opposite.. and we just can’t wait! Address: |
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 10 September 2006. It’s always a happy day knowing that you will wake up to good food. A prior date has been set. To try out the famous Lum Mee and it’s sotong Fishballs and Fu Pei (something similar to Yong Tau Foo). May King is the locked target. Well, I actually didn’t know where we are heading to or what shop it is until I practically get there. According to my food guide (Miss Gigi), May King is located next to a wet market called Pudu Pasar. When I reach the place, it somehow looked familiar. Yeah, I tried it once before. It was back in year 2002. When I first started to work… Gigi brought me there too. But of course we just pack and eat in the office at that time. Of course one must try what is famous… and Lum Mee it is. The thick yellow noodles topped with shredded chicken meat, prawns and yummy thick black gravy. Ooo la la… it just makes me drool each time I think of it. The fishballs were equally good with chunky bits of sotong. But the best of all was the Fu Pei. It just got this great aroma and taste. I think if I didn’t order my bowl of noodles I could just finish up the whole bowl by myself. According to my reliable source,it’s a hassle to get a place to seat in the shop as it is most of the time packed. Don’t be fooled thinking you could just stand at the front of the line and food will come to you. They do have numbering system. So be smart and get a number or else you probably would just end up standing there the whole day and not getting a place. I heard the Curry Mee was equally good. But well, my stomach was giving this FULL warning. So… next time it is. A good drink is all it need to refreshen us after a filling Lum Mee lunch and a slow walk in KLCC. Bored of the normal coffee places like Starbucks and Coffee Bean, we decided to head to Chinoz On The Park which well, from the name one would know… it’s just by the park. I was actually captivated with their glass sticker. I loved the colours and I think it looks great and work great as a background to take pictures. As usual, Gigi would order a Latte (RM11.00). Coffee addiction alert! Brian ordered Mango Fizz (RM12.00) and I ordered Pink Chocolate (RM16.00). Haha… yes, me and pink are just partner in cime.. and chocolate, woohoo… I can hear it calling my name~ yes… it’s calling my name. What exectly is a Pink chocolate? Pink Chocolate is a mixture of cranberry and strawberry juice mixed with white chocolate essence. Ah… there you have it. That’s what being written on the menu. Of course, I thought it would look pink but apparently it doesn’t. The best part, they even serves us complimentary breads… wee. Yeay… free hot buns.. free hot buns. Er… okay… now.. what shall we do after tea and before movies? Hemm… any ideas? |
Backdated post. Actual event took place on 5 September 2006. Ah… finally, our tai kor’s birthday. Haha… many people always think I like to bully him but well.. he’s like a bro to me… so what’s a bro for? sure for the little sister to bully one mar! Hahaha.. now since it’s my tai kor’s birthday, sure must celebrate big big mah! No kidding, a big party is awaiting for him in Checker’s. He can’t run away can he? Haha… everyone in our office face this fate which much can’t run away from. Yes, birthday drinking session! So before the drinking starts, the eating begins. Azli introduce us to this Japanese and Korean mix restaurant which was located a few shops beside Checker’s. Now… don’t really ask me what is the shop’s name as i really didn’t bother to look. Was kinda hungry and my mind just think of eat.. food! food! and more food! Wow… to my surprise, there were lots of japanese people in the shop.. like I would say 80% of them. Hemm… Azli is in charge of ordering the food since he ate there before. As for us, we just wait to eat whatever food that appear on our table. The fun part starts to begin when a charcoal like grill was place in the middle of the table. Then one by one the dishes starts pouring in. All the different type of kimchi’s, vege, starters, then the raw chicken and tongue comes to the table and then veges, corn… lovely lovely. We barely have much place to put everything. It was lovely. Azli even tell us the correct way of eating… what sauce goes with what meat. It was a fun experience. For me… I actually didn’t know and I normally use the “simply hantam (just whack)” method. Haha… I must say, my level of knowledge is one notch higher 😀 Now… this beef tongue eh. At first when I heard the word tongue… I was like. 😐 okay.. tongue er… surely disguisting. But when it appear sliced on the plate… it looks like raw beef slices. Now, how does it taste like eh. Of course it tasted like beef just the texture was way different than I expect it to be. Well… I really dunno how to describe in words. It actually taste better than beef. The texture was amazing. It’s much more tender and ah… it just go so well with the sauce. *burp* Excuse me. I am just way too full. Need to take a rest before going in to Checker’s and get Loh drunk. So yeah, find out what happen next at Checker’s. |
Once upon a time… er.. long long time ago, there was this one day when me, azli and my boss have to go to this KLCC Convention Centre since our client have a booth there and we go and have a look see look see thing. Right after this look see look see thing, me and azli went for lunch seperately since my boss and the client have something to talk about. Hence, azli suggested Gloria Jeans. Hem… let me see… I think the last time I was at Gloria Jeans was hemmm… eunice’s (my unimate) birthday hemm… let’s see 3-4 years ago. Haha… yes, I can still remember how we were suppose to go to Saloma but ended up walking to KLCC’s Gloria Jeans for food when other shops were closed. Well… with lots of people telling me how bad Gloria Jeans was, how bad their coffee was and all… it just make me sorta didn’t like that place. Yes, I agree… hatred is and can be cultivated. Now… since I pass the thinking of what to eat to azli and he have make a decision, of course I respect his decision and go for it. Since he have been to Gloria Jeans many times, I asked him to suggest what is good. He then asked me to try their set meal. He said the lamb was good. So yeap… following what he says to the dot… I ordered the Lamb Shank (RM18.80) set that comes with tea of the day. It was not as bad as I expect and thought it would be. In fact, the lamb shank turned out very nice not to mention the portion was big enough to stuff my stomach. It was really really good… imagine me.. finishing it all. Yum! Now… I don’t mind another round of Gloria Jeans. Hemm… in fact, I dun mind a few more rounds of Gloria Jeans. No one wanna go? Okay lah.. jom azli let’s Gloria again~ |
